Seeking contacts with information on, or connections to Alexander BROWN, born to Archibald BROWN and Mary McKELLAR of Ardachuple. Kilmodan, Argyll and baptised 31 March 1777. The following data has been verified per Alexander's death certificate, census entries for Rothesay and OPR for Kilmodan, Inverchaolain and Rothesay.
The next definite appearance of Alexander BROWN is in Rothesay, Bute in 1805 married to Mary CURRIE. It is highly likely that their marriage is the one recorded in neighbouring Inverchaolain parish on 10 June 1802 where the bride is recorded as Mary McCURRY of Dunoon. The couple in Inverchaolain disappear from the record after the birth of one child, Mary, on 26 August 1803. In the birth entry the mother's name is recorded as CURRY.
Alexander BROWN and Mary CURRIE had eight children recorded born at Rothesay, Bute where Alexander was a fisherman - Cathrene 1805, (second) Mary 1807, Janet 1809, Margaret 1811, Daniel (my 2xggf) 1814, Isabella 1816, Alexander 1820, and George 1822.
Mary died 22 May 1832 and Alexander died 30 August 1864 and are buried at Rothesay with unmarried daughters Catherine (d.1905), Mary (d.1896) and Janet CAMPBELL ( widow of Duncan, d.1904) together with William WYNNE (husband of Margaret, d.1873) and grand-daughter Elizabeth Woodward BROWN, daughter of George.
Have been unable so far to find any marriage or other details recorded for Archibald BROWN and Mary McKELLAR.
Any suggestions, anyone?
