>National Trust Brew a Campbell Soup

>You might have thought that 300 years after the Massacre of 38 members of
the MacDonald clan in Glencoe by a group of government soldiers led by a
Campbell, that the enmity between the two clans might have subsided a bit
by now. That this was not the case was shown clearly this week when the
National Trust for Scotland appointed a Campbell to head the new visitor
centre at Glencoe. With at least one local hotel displaying a sign saying
"No hawkers. No Campbells" there were plenty of locals prepared to give
quotes to the national press. "Perhaps Mr Campbell could consider getting
his name changed by deed poll before he arrives" said one while another
commented "Only a quango like the National Trust could come up with
something like this". Somewhat defensively, the Trust said that the
appointment had been made "on merit" and his name was never considered.
After such a controversial start, you might have thought that Mr Campbell
would at least initially keep a low profile. >
