There were more than 30 Ballantines in the index, and I do not have an idea
of dates from your note below, but I find that the only John Ballantine was
in Smerby North Farm, Kilchousland, with quite a few other Ballantines:
Hector Ballantine, 78
Jean McGill, 70
[possibly husband and wife, but cannot tell from the entry]
Duncan Ballantine, 26
Margaret McKeich, 24
John Ballantine, 3
Archibald Ballantine, 2
Hector Ballantine, 1/2
Archibald McNeill, 45
Betty Ballantine, 36
Hector McNeill, 6
You probably know that McShannon had various earlier spellings in Kintyre,
not all of them intuitive. At this time, the families listed in the book had
their names spelled McShenoig. There were about 20 in the index, and the
only Mary was in the family shown below
32 Bolgam Street, Campbeltown
Allan McNaught, 30
Mary McShenoig, 24
Archibald McNaught, 4
John McNaught, 1
Mary McNaught, 10
(In all cases, please note that the household 'boundaries' are not defined,
and I'm giving my best guess based on the names and ages.)
Good luck!
Sarah

Hi Sarah,
How kind and generous of you to offer your assistance. I've traced John and
Mary (McShannon) Ballantine to Kintyre, but have little else to go on.
Mary's mother was a Ritchie, and John's mother was a Woodside.
Anything you might find on these surnames would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you once again for your time and assistance - all the best to you in
the New Year -
Cheers,
Terry Ballantine
