Hi John, Sarah & List,
I agree with Sarah about the Lowland Plantation; I base this on this Marriage
Record:
Mathew WALLACE married Agnes McNeil 28th Feb 1767 at Campbeltown - he is noted
as being a member of the "Loland [sic] congregation". I believe that Les [Horn]
can probably shed more light on the Lowland Congregation than I can (thanks
again Les).
Coming from Ayrshire, I think so too, as there appears to be a number of
possible WALLACE ancestors there (again, I have nothing conclusive though yet).
We have also found that once Margaret WALLACE emigrated to Australia in 1838,
the WALLACE name has been used as both a First & middle name, for males only,
through all generations (up to the current generation), through the various
inter-marriages.
For example, from Margaret's 2nd marriage to John Hughes in Sydney in 1839,
their only son was named John Wallace Hughes.
Margaret's first marriage was to William McKinlay in 1825 in Glasgow - no info
on his ancestry at all, yet!
So John, yes, I would be interested in any information regarding Wallaces, that
you would be happy to share.
Regards & Thanks,
Glenyce Voevodin-Keough in Western Australia

}There was much speculation when I was at school about the connection, but
}nothing conclusive! I think that the Wallaces in Kintyre were part of the
}Lowland Plantation in the area, and that they came from Ayrshire. Perhaps
}another list member can contribute more information.

} Just been reading your helpful emails to various people when the Wallace
}name cropped. Is these Wallaces any relation to the famous William Wallace?
} If so, I have the family tree showing the connection to Sir James Young
}Simpson, nin case you do not have it.
} Good hunting
