Hi Toni,
The surnames aren't directly related...although saying that,on ISABELLA (Gifford) WOOD's death certificate in 1921 the informant is JAMES COWIE (son-in-law) ,so i suppose he must have married MARGARET J WOOD (born 1879) as she was the only daughter.
