This line has been a "brick wall" for over 40 years in my family and I was finally able to break through last summer with a great deal of help from ScotlandsPeople documentation. I am hoping that someone familiar with the Berwickshire area and/or access to lookups that aren't available on ScotlandsPeople could help me piece together the history of Alexander's family and possibly unearth more information on his ancestry. I am interested in both additional ancestral information on my lines as well as biographical/historical information on the related lines and families. >

So I would greatly appreciate any information anyone has to add to the limited information I've been able to glean from ScotlandsPeople.
First of all, my compliments on a nice piece of work, well presented. As I'm sure that you've
realised, data on your actual family is now going to get harder to find, unless they had
reason to be mentioned in places such as the Kirk Session Minutes. However, there's
plenty of background information around.
The Grimsay Press (owned by Zeticula) have started selling publish on demand reprints
of old books which can be very informative (see my website under farms and then Farm
People for an example of the type of information that can be found). The stuff on my
website's from an original text (and thus out of copyright) - I have found it chaper to
buy the reprints from Abebooks or Amazon.co.uk than from the publishers.

There's also a collection of useful links on the last page of my website

The Statistical Accounts are especially useful. Ignore the invitations on
the website to subscribe, one of the last items on the menu gives the option to
browse for free. The search engine can't be used, but it's nicer to read the whole thing anyway.
SCAN Is also very useful http://www.scan.org.uk/researchrtools/index.htm
