First of all, remember that the name Pat(t)erson is incredibly common in the Borders.
The easiest thing to do would be to get onto the OPR section of Scotlands People and look up those 2 basptisms or the marriage. OPR entries were not standardised, but most Ministers mentioned the occupation of the father. Also, with the social structure of the time, had the father/groom been a Knight of the Realm, the Minister would almost certainly have mentioned the fact.
