Hi, Everyone -

I have just joined the list in the hopes that someone might be able to help me break down one of my brick walls. My 3x-great-grandfather was Robert Wilson. In 1799 he married Jane Tofts (born in Pencaitland in 1779 to John Tofts and Jane Campbell). Robert and Jane were married in both Aberlady and Saltoun. The OPR from Saltoun indicates that Robert was from the Parish of Aberlady and Jane was from Saltoun.

They had the following children:
Alexander born 1800 in Aberlady - married Mary Allan - died 1866 in Inveresk
John born 1802 in Aberlady - married Eliza(beth) Barrie - died 1883 in Inveresk
Jean born 1804 in Aberlady - no further information
Elisabeth born 1807 in Aberlady - no further information
Robert born 1809 in Aberlady - married Jane Herriot - died 1866 in Tranent
Ann born 1813 in Inveresk - no further information, believe she died early
Anne born 1816 in Inveresk - married William Paxton - died 1868 in Liberton
Agnes born 1822 in Inveresk - married John Smith - they are my 2x-great grandparents - died 1908 in New York City
There may have also been a daughter Janet born in 1819 but I have not been able to confirm this.

Jane Tofts Wilson died in Inveresk in 1858. She appears in the 1851 census as a widow and also is shown alone on the 1841 census. Her death certificate refers to her as the "widow of a farm servant."

I would very much like to pinpoint Robert's birth date and parents. If anyone has any information on this Wilson family, I would be pleased to hear from you.

Thank you.
