Sorry for long delay in no reply.
The odd mix of dates you see in the IGI is because some are put there by LDS members and some are transcribed from the parish or public records.
The correct date I think you will find will be 11th Sept 1846 in Dunbar. There are a number of other Miller marriages in that parish within a few years of this and they may prove to be siblings of your James. James and Mary had a Jemima Janet Wilson born 5th May 1858 in Duns.
By that date the civil records of that birth would give more detail and your James and Mary's death records will now be available which will give you their parents details. Go to Scotlandspeople web site for this information and more.
