I am tasked with doing research for an elderly gentleman but am not doing too well!!

I have George Kerridge born (according to census) c1838 in London married to Jane (surname unknown) born Wigton, Cumberland c1840. Children of this marriage:

Annie J b c1864 in Bavaria, Germany
Emma A b c1867 in Carlisle, Cumberland
Alice Mary b c1869 in Linlithgow, Scotland
George Robson b c1874 in Edinburgh, Scotland
Emily Nelson b c1877 in Berwickshire
Charles Edward b c1879 in Berwickshire
Louis Frederick b 1880 in Edinburgh
Mabel E b 1885 in Edinburgh

The family is split in the 1891 census with some of the children living with Jane in Edinburgh and other children living with George in Dunbar - possibly due to work commitments.

I am desperate for any information on birth/marriage of George and his children.

Also information as to why George's first child was born in Bavaria - I am presuming something to do with George possibly on active service but this is only a guess.

Please can someone help. Unfortunately, the gentleman I am doing this for knows nothing of his family except 'they came from Scotland' hence his request for me to do some research for him. I had not realised Scottish research was so difficult with very little on line (without paying!). I obviously don't want to run up any expense for him if I can help it.
