Surname: HUNTER, NICOL
-------------------------

Am doing some research for a friend without net access. Looking for HUNTER
centred around Kirknewton, Newton, Ormiston. Known details of this family
are as follows: John HUNTER, born ca 1843 (calculated from marriage certificate,
no birth record found) married to Janet MURRAY on 11 September 1863 at
Newlands, Peebles. Father of John was William HUNTER, married to Marion
NICOL. William was born ca 1822/23 and we believe was living in Newton
in 1863. William and Marion were married (two entries, I presume one was
bans) 29th May 1843, St. Cuthbert's Edinburgh, and 5th June 1843, Kirknewton
& E. Calder. Their other known children were Mary, born 1 Jun 1855 at Newton,
a male child born 30 August 1857 at Newton and Jane, born 24 May 1861,
Newton. (THis leaves a big gap between John born 1843 and Mary, should
have been other children in there also) The 1881 census shows a William,
a widower aged 59, born Kirknewton. However, there are a number of WIlliam
HUNTER names in that area and it's difficult to piece it together. There
was also a William born at about the same time , son of William HUNTER,
married to BArbara MUIRHEAD (none of the names of that family fit however,
and naming conventions seem to be very strong in the family I am looking
at), so the census could relate to him istead of "our" William. Can't tell
from this scanty data. Any information, even if you think the family is
unlikely to be related, could be of assistance. Thanks in advance, Lyndall
Osborne, on behalf of Ron Hunter.
