Subject: [EDB] Dogs paw

Hi!
Something My dad was lucky enough to inherit from his father was a dogs
paw, the family story sas that someone from my Grandpa Harry JOHNSONs family
loved their dog so much that they kept its paw and made it into a broach.
The only problem is I don't know wheather it was from his fathers side
(Harry JOHNSON who was born in Binfield, Berkshire, England and moved to
Middlesex, England as a young boy) or his Mothers (Florence BENNET who was
born in Edinburgh, Scotland and later moved to Fulahm, Middlesex when she
got married).
To me it seems as if it would have been Florence BENNETs family as they
lived on Princes street and probably had more money than the JOHNSONs who
were farmers in Middlesex and bakers in Binfield. There is a lot of detail
added to the paw which seems to be a silver or metal lining or cast (Iam not
exactly sure whats it called). I dont quite know what kind of dog it was but
it looks kind of like the paw of a pitbull.
My question to the list is, Was this a common practise in Edinburgh
in the 1800s? and has anyone elses family here done the same thing?

I look forward to seeing your replys!
