Subject: [EDB] SEEKING EXPERIENCED ADVICE
Date: Sat, 7 Oct 2000 17:50:49 -0400
I have discovered the address of the farm some of my ancestors farmed
throughout much of the 19th century. The building is still there. On a
can't-hurt basis, I propose to write a letter to the present inhabitants. Of
course my agenda is not only to find out if they are by any chance
descendants of the Camerons, but what the house is now used for, and even
(if they turn out friendly) to swap a couple of photos for info about their
house's background.
I should be grateful for advice from anybody who has already been successful
with this sort of approach, as to the line to take in the first letter. I
tend to get over-friendly, and I don't want to spook these people.
Best,
John Storm Roberts
