Some possible answers

a) its not the same couple
b) earlier children were baptised in a secession church, in a church whose
records has been lost or a church that;s not on the IGI (or did you get the
info from Scots Origins?)
c) Thomas was away fighting Boney


Was the marriage record from FamilySearch? It may be a banns and not a
marriage. St Cuthberts was a huge parish, by no means all the people
actually worshipped there.
