I asked about this a while back and have had no response but perhaps there
is someone out there who could help.
On the IGI, my couple James Aitchison and Rabina Campbell are listed as
marrying on 17 Jun 1816, "Edinburgh Blotter, Edinburgh, Midlothian,
Scotland"
When I received the OPR record from Scots Origins it said Parish of
Edinburgh County of Edinburgh (Midlothian) and at the bottom that the
particulars "are extracted from a register of Proclamations of Banns and
Marriages" dated 16 Jun 1816.
So what is the meaning of Edinburgh Blotter?
Is it a note on the corner of someone's desk blotter, or possibly a desk
blotter held in front of a mirror to read the entries blotted there or...?
Many thanks,
Sue Wragg
