Hi Eunice,
I found a James Haliburton who lived at Carrubbers Close (Edinburgh
Directory 1773-74) and thought he might be mine. Now you give me another
option with James Hallyburton, W.S. lived at No 2 Thom's Land: this was
situated in Libberton's Wynd between St Giles Church and Edinburgh Castle
on the south side of the High Street (1752 directory). Could be the same
man of two different folk!!
As for the REIDs it's a very common name! I don't think they are mine as
David Reid died in 1742 when son William was only 8 years old. His wife and
son William acquired the property "Blegbie" in 1746 and held it until
Williams resignation of the estate in 1769 some time after his mother had
died. William was by this time a merchant in Manchester so I guess the
property was managed.
Thanks for your contribution. It is all appreciated
Cheers,
Jenny

Jenny,
REF: "Andrew DUNNET ( a merchant in North West Parish) and wife Annie (?
Lawrie) had two daughters:-
1. Margaret DUNNET married David REID (Merchant, Burgess & Guild Brother
S.S.W. Parish,Edinburgh) and had one son William on 19 Feb 1738.
2. Eupham DUNNET married James HALIBURTON (a writer to the signet) and had
children Robert 1735, George 1737 and Mary 1739"
It is possible to work out the following information from `Gilhooley's
Directory of Edinburgh in 1752' but I do not know if it will be any help to
you.
James Hallyburton, W.S. lived at No 2 Thom's Land: this was situated in
Libberton's Wynd between St Giles Church and Edinburgh Castle on the south
side of the High Street. Other Hallyburton's are listed but not at the same
address.
Also listed at varying addresses are:-
Mr Reid, merchant at Society, Young's.
Mrs Reid, merchant at West Bow Middle, Morrison's.
Mrs Reid, widow at Castlehill South, Blair's.
Mrs Reid, merchant at Lady Stair's Close, Forrest's.
Mrs Reid, at Warriston Close, McRabbie's.
Mrs Reid at Murdoch's Close, Marshall's.
