Dear Mr/Ms Greenwood

Thank you for your email which I received this evening here in Australia.

Firstly I think that on looking at the death certificate of Alexander Adam, the name of his daughter, Dorothy Adam, could perhaps be Dorothy E Adam and not as I read it, Dorothy L Adam. Therefore perhaps she is the one born 1914 Dorothy Elizabeth Adam - St Ninians #265 (Stirlingshire). I could perhaps obtain a copy of this birth certificate to see if it is the one . I am really more interested to learn if she had any children and whether they are still alive, or even is she is still alive.

My husband was born in 1912 (he was a lot older than I) but did not mention that he had a sister who would have been living in 1940 when her and his father died. If you are able to let me know a cheaper way of getting a birth certificate for her other than through the General Register Office for Scotland, New Register House, 3 West Register Street, Edinburgh Scotland EH1 3YT I would be grateful.

My husband was born in Dundee and was born in 1912 the year after his parents' marriage. I assumed that his sister would have been born after that. I notice on the map of Scotland that Stirlingshire is in the general area they were in.

I do have the details of my husband's father's birth which was on 11 September 1880 in Cathcart. Also I do have details of his mother's family. I actually was able to get all the details of my husband's family back to William Adam born about 1727 and Eupheme Chrystie born about 1731. If you would like any details of these families please let me know. I do also have details of the censuses of 1881 and 1891 and also 1901 in Scotland which was how I finally tied all the families in together. I could not get births or marriage dates of William Adam and Eupheme Chrystie but I got details of births of their children (7 of them). They were all in Dunfermline and the family seemed to stay in that area for a couple of generations. The Church of the Latter Day Saints had on records that their births were perhaps around 1727 and 1731 so zI have used those dates.

Again thank you for your help and if you have any ideas on how I could find out when Dorothy Adam died, or if she died, or whether she got married and had children, please let me know. I got most of my information from Scotlandspeople.gov.uk but the deaths do not go any later than 1952, births no later than 1902, and marriages no later than 1927.

I know that she was not married in 1940 when her father died and that she was not dead in 1952 but she could have married between 1940 and 1952.

Many thanks.

Delma Adam
