Possibly the Scottish Reformation Society. In 1874 its travelling
agents were Donald Smith and Alexander Ross. The office was 17 George
IV Bridge.

The same address is given in my source as being the Protestant
Institute of Scotland.

The name suggests to me that the organisation was dedicated to
preserving the spirit of the reformation and not letting any
dangerous (grin) episcopalian or catholic practices seep in by
default. But this is a guess of course.
