Subject: Is this my John Nisbet?
Date: Tue, 14 Feb 2006 17:46:23 -0500
My John Nisbet, born in Edinburgh around 1800 married Isabella Nicol on
May 25 1820 in Edinburgh. Problem is that I only have their banns and
John's birth date and parents are not mentioned. Finding his parents is
my genealogical roadblock.
I have narrowed down possibilities and believe that John's parents may
have been John Nisbet and Janet Elphingston, married Dec 20 1790 in
Edinburgh. If so, my John would have been born/christened Jul 13 1797.
John and Janet also had Christian (born Jul 13 1795), Helen (born Sept 6
1793) and Ann (born Dec 2 1791) and possibly others I have not found
yet. Oddly enough John and Isabella also named their children Helen,
Ann Janet and of course John (a very popular name in my family tree).
Any suggestions in confirming that my John Nisbet is the John belonging
to John and Janet? I have searched for marriage registry entries for
the marriage in 1820 but could only locate banns. Are there other ways
to cross reference the May 25 1820 marriage data to birth information?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
