John & Marion Thomson
married in 1791 in Scotland
Background
Marion Brown was daughter of Reverend John Brown of Coultermains in the
Scottish Borders area of Biggar in Lanarkshire. Record of John Brown &
family can be found in Scottish Ministers for Coulter.
Records for John Thomson have not been found.
John & Marion had 4 sons:
1. John b 1 May, 1792, Edinburgh, Midlothian
2. Archibald b 8 Jan, 1794, Edinburgh, Midlothian
3. William b 11 April, 1796, Edinburgh, Midlothian
4. James b 21 Sept, 1797, Edinburgh, Midlothian
John Thomson, son of Archibald & Agnes (Ralston) Thomson was christened in
St. Cuthbert's Parish Church in Edinburgh, July 01, 1833.
Archibald went to Australia in @ 1822, married Agnes Ralston @1828 in
Launceston, Tasmania & returned to Scotland @ 1832/33 after the death of his
father John Thomson (presumed Edinburgh). Archibald returned to Tasmania,
Australia
Shortly after Archibald went to Australia for the first time, brothers James
& John followed.
William did not migrate to Australia & is thought to have stayed in Scotland
John died pre 1830 in Tasmania & James died of old age in Tasmania many
years later at Cleghorn.
Archibald & Agnes lived at Cormiston, a property on the West Tamar,
Launceston, Tasmania. (a land grant)
Seeking:
1.John (Of John & Marion Brown) Thomson's father, mother & siblings &
records of their births, deaths & marriages
2.Records of John Thomson's birth & death ( we have a marriage certificate
for the couple)
3.Records of Marion Brown's birth as Mainie/Marion Brown & death as Marion
Thomson, wife of John Thomson. (Possibly Edinburgh)
4.Records of their third son William Thomson who is believed to have stayed
in Scotland.
5.Records of William's marriage if possible, name of spouse, date of spouse
birth & death.
6.Records of William's children, births & deaths, marriages if possible.
Unproven
Belief that the John Thomson & family were millers & merchants of some kind
in Edinburgh, but no written proof.
Is there anyone out there related to John Thomson & Marion Brown through
William or through any other branches of the Thomson family.
Cormiston was a property in the Biggar area near Coulter & Coultermains
where Marion was raised. The property name was used again in Tasmania,
Australia.
