FIFE SIGNATURES
I recently obtained, at the PRO Kew, a photocopy of a Memorial
petitioning for clemency for John Philp of Bankhead, Dalgety; it had
been dispatched on 2 December 1848 with a covering letter signed by John
FERGUS MP for Fife.
The Memorial was signed by about 150 Fife worthies. I thought these
names might be of interest to the list so have typed them out (with
surname first) and have arranged them in alphabetical order; two
signatures were omitted (cut off at the bottom by the person who
photocopied the document). Anything in square brackets [] is my
comment.
I have _no_ further information about these people. Also, I'm sorry but
I don't have a scanner so cannot email copies of the signatures. I have
put question marks where I was unsure, and have left original spellings.
I have divided the names into alphabetical groups for sending to the
List.
