Hi Tunji,

I found the following two baptisms for their children which you may
already have:

Fife Baptisms from Non Establishment Church Records CD, pub.
by/copyright Fife Family History Society

Publication Number 3, Inverkeithing Associate Congregation

Baptisms (1821-1847)
[CH3/452/5]

Page 69 - McEWAN (McKUAN), John & Mgt WARDLAW: John, b. date not
recorded/bap. 3 May 1825

Not yet published - Dunfermline Associate Congregation Births,
1799-1854

Page 51 - McQUEEN, John & MARGARET Wardlaw: Robert, b. 22 July/bap.
5 Aug 1810

Other spellings of surname displayed: McOWEN, McQUEEN, MacQUEEN

I tried the Fife Pre 1855 Deaths CD to see where Margaret died but I could
not find her on the CD.

I tried some things on Ancestry.com.

Re. the MCGOWAN / JOHN / MALE / 68 / 1851 / FIFE / ABBOTSHALL - wife's
name is Mary, occupation Blacksmith.

Found the following:

1841 Scotland Census, Fife, Aberdour, ED 8, Page 2, Bankhead
Joha McEWAN, 45, Ag Lab, b. Fife, Scotland
Margaret McEWAN, 40, b. Fife, Scotland
Margaret McEWAN, 10, b. Fife, Scotland
William McEWAN, 5, b. Fife, Scotland
Ancestry.com Scotland 1841 Census Index ("The ages of people over 15
years old were usually rounded down to the nearest 5 years. Therefore,
someone who was actually 24 years would have their age listed as 20, and
someone who was actually 27 years old would have their age listed as 25.
If people lied about their ages, or if their real ages were not known or
reported correctly, the gap between the rounded age recorded on the census
and their actual age may be quite significant.")

However, the following may be the same couple in 1851:

1851 Scotland Census, Fife, Aberdour, ED 7, Page 10, Callaloe Cottages
John McEWAN, Head, 52, Farm Servant, b. Dunfermline, Fife
Margaret McEWAN, Wife, 50, Farm Servant Wife, b. Dunfermline, Fife
John McEWAN, Son, 8, Scholar, b. Pathhead, Fife
Ancestry.com Scotland 1851 Census Index.

If 52 and 50 are their correct ages, they would not be marrying in 1809.

The above were the closest I could find and nothing looked likely in 1861.

Who was the informant for John's death?

Regards,
Linda
