I have used Scots Origins and will so again - in fact I am just about to do
so. It costs £6 for 30 credits and as Donna has said you only have 24 hours
to use them, which I would also like to see changed. I would prefer to see
account based credits rather than time expiry. However, if you were to go to
Edinburgh it costs £17.50 for a day ticket, where you can access the same
details & pull all the fiches of the statutory or tapes of the OPRs.
I think David Cawley's comments are more balanced than Donna has made. I
haven't found any miracles but I have traced relatives. I think the trick is
to bring as much information to the table as you can before you search. This
narrows down the number of people with the same name and of course saves
your credits also. They also have the census results for 1881-1901.
Good luck with your searches.

I have tried it twice....and I won't waste the money anymore. Usually you
need to have lots of people to search otherwise you spend all your credits
looking for people that are already found in the IGI. Have a lot of names
listed out or you won't waste your money. You only have 24 hours to use it
and even viewing a printer friendly page costs a credit...so don't be
surprised if your credits are used up quickly. In general, I found nothing
more than what is on the IGI, however. I never found any miraculous
discoveries...
