Dear Liz,

Thank you for responding to my query. I am not sure however that my query
has been answered.

One of my ancestors was born in Glasgow about 1832. I have some information
already provided to me from the Mitchell library that indicates that a
sister of hers may have been baptised at the St Andrews by the Green
Episcopal Chapel. From directories from the time I have a brother living in
King St and subsequently in St Andrews Square.

While it occurred to me after I sent my email to the list that the indexing
of the records from the above church may not have been complete and that my
ancestor could still have been baptised at the above church, I was trying to
identify if there was another church nearby in which she and possibly other
siblings as well as a niece and nephew may have been baptised.

I live in New Zealand and have never been to Glasgow so I don't know what
churches would have existed in this vicinity in the 1830's. My
understanding was that while the Mitchell Library were willing to look up
the records that have been indexed I would have to employ a researcher to
proceed any further so I was attempting to identify areas for future
investigation.

About a year ago I was sent some burials from the Glasgow High Church. I
was able to identify my ancestor's sister who died as a child as well as her
nephew and most probably her Mother. I would like to be able to locate when
and where her Father died and his age or date of birth.

I have a lot of information that would indicate that I am on the right track
with my research however most of it is what I would call circumstantial.
While there is nothing that appears to be out of place, I am lacking that
crucial information that ties everything together irrefutably. I am hoping
that finding this information would be the clincher.

The archivist from the Mitchell Library did not indicate what churches were
included in their database but said that she had searched the database
without success so any information regarding what Episcopalian Churches
existed in the vicinity would be appreciated.

Regards,

Christine

Dear List,

Can anyone tell me what Episcopal churches and burial grounds would have
been in the vicinity of King St and St Andrews Square in the early 1830s
apart from St Andrews by the Green Episcopal Chapel.

I am after some baptisms that would have taken place in the Glasgow area
where the Registers are not held by the Mitchell Library.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

Christine

Hi Christine:

Not sure if this will get you what you are looking for but the information
here is interesting:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottish_Episcopal_Church

You might also check out

One of the repositories for records is listed here, the Mitchell Library in

Glasgow. I was in Glasgow last summer but did not get a chance to go there.

I plan on a return trip (when affordable), to do research my Glasgow
people there.

Also, do a google search on the Episcopal Churches and you will find lots of

references. It is just a matter of researching everything to see if you can

get what you need.
