Can anyone suggest where I might find more information on my families from this area. They were ordinary folk - merchants ,crofters ,mariner. They were Gaelic speaking Roman Catholics. Their name was spelt McDonald in the census or Macdonald on other documents. Ewen McDonald came from the Glengarry part of Kilmonivaig and his wife Annie[Ann] McDonell from Boleskine. They married around 1820- the family bible states Ewen and Annie Macdonald Fort Augustus 1820.When Ewen died in 1862 at 82 it said his parents were Alexander and Mary nee McMillan. His wife was born around 1801 in Boleskine as were their children Mary, Catherine, John[a mariner who later in 1860 married Mary McDonell from Fort Augustus, daughter of Donald and Mary McDonell], Alexander, Donald [my gggrandfather who married Jane Lamont] and Ewen.
Can anyone suggest anything? Desparation is now setting in!
