Hi Colin,
I don't know whether or not you're familiar with Woodville, Ontario but, my aunt and uncle lived there for
many, many years, from the end of WWII actually, at RR#4 Woodville, about 5 miles S of the village off of
Hwy. #46.
My parents had a summer "cottage" there for 25 years on an acre of land adjoining their property.
Right up until the 1970's, early 80's, which is the last I know of it, the actual Village of Woodville had
a population of only approx. 450 persons.
I can remember way back mention of the surname "McCuaig" as "neighbours" (think country here) of my aunt
and uncle.
Before they were all closed by the Ontario Government, the closest one room school house would have been
"Black's School".
There was a tiny country United Church of Canada (Protestant) right at the intersection of Hwy. 46 and the
4th Concession Rd. that all the "locals" attended but, I'll be darned if I can think of the name of it
right now...(might have been "Penille (sic) Church" or something such, I do believe)
The closest Catholic church was in the village itself.
After grade school the kids were bussed to Lindsay, Ontario for high school.
Taxes were paid in the Village of Little Britain, Ontario at that time.
You might get something through one of those ways.
Also, do try Canada 411 for current persons by the surname who might still be in the general area.
All of this was Victoria county, Ontario.
Best of Luck with your research.
Kind Regards,
Pat McCabe
