Dear Steve:

I think that it's a great idea!

I know that the tombstone inscription that I got from the Killarow headstone
list was not included in the People of Islay list because both fiches are now
on file at the FHC in Brampton.

I also have several Lamont headstones that are not on the list that were on
my old Lamont family tree. A cousin who visited Islay in 1976 states that he
found them all from the list and that they were accurate. He sent me a photo
of one of the headstones which is not on either of those lists. ( for Angus
Lamont at Kiells) This tombstone is very easy to read in the photo. Another
headstone is on the list but my inscription and the authors are quite
different.

>From the 100 year old tree:

Erected by Janet Campbell in memory of her husband Gilbert Lamont, late
tenant Port-in Ellan, who died 1st May, 1853 aged 65 years. And their
daughter, Mary who died January 1850 aged 21 years. Also her son Gilbert
Roger who died 28th June 1867 aged 19 years.

>From the Index of Pre 1855 Gravestone Inscriptions

Gilbert Lamont, Portinellan, tentant, d 1853, age 65
his wife, Janet Campbell
their son, Gilbert Roger Lamont, d 1867 age 19
their dau, Mary Lamont, d 1850, age 21

You can see how misleading the book is. From my tree and the OPRs I can see
that Mary Lamont married John Roger in 1846. Their son Gilbert Roger must
have been born in 1847 or 1848. John Roger died in 1848 and his wife in
1850. Most likely Mary Lamont's mother Janet Campbell raised her grandson
Gilbert Roger until he died at the early age of 19. That must be why he was
included on the Lamont tombstone.

By reading the book you think that Gilbert Roger and Mary Lamont are siblings
not son and mother.

So I say Yes to your idea.
