Date: Mon, 29 May 2000 11:36:27 EDT
Dear Shiela. Hello from Campbeltown which this year celebrates it`s 300th
aniverssary as a royal Burgh. It is situated at the bottom of thr Kintyre
Penisula nestled at the head of a sea loch now called Campbeltown Loch. In
it`s Past before the rise of the house of Argyll it would have been Known as
Ceann Loch Cille KIieran. From the west road there is breath taking views of
Isla , Jura and Gigha. In the past the town was famous for distilling and
there would have been as many as 40 distillaries when your grandfather lodged
here. Today sadly there are only two. Saddel street is still in existance and
leads up from Kinloch Green towards Main street where Dalintober infants
school is and was founded around the time of your grandfathers visit.
Hope this is of some use . Cheers Donnie
