Hello,
My name is Alan Cameron. I have greatly enjoyed the correspondence but this
is my first venture into print myself.
Can anyone help? I have run into a difficulty in tracing my grandfather's
family.
My Grandfather was
John Fraser b August 1869 in the Cladadh district of Kilchoman, Islay
He married in 1901 Annie Currie in the Partick District of Glasgow and died
in 1955 in Islay.
His parents are given as William Fraser and Margaret MacFadyen.
I can find no trace of William before or after and have found no record of a
marriage. He is not in Kilchoman in the 1871 or 1881 censuses nor is Margaret
MacFadyen.
However both John (my granfather) and a Maggie MacFadyen (10 months and born
in Lanark) are included in the family of Finlay MacFadyen and Mary McGilvray,
Margaret's parents in the !871 census. They are also shown in the same
grouping in the 1881 census. I suspect that William and Margaret emigrated
but have no evidence.
