Hi,
Here is some more Gilchrist info to add to the puzzle!
Archibald MCNICOL, weaver was born 1799 Kilmenny(1851 census).
He married Marion MCARTHUR on March 5, 1823 in Kilmeny.
On the death certificate for Marion MCARTHUR, May 12, 1855, she was 52
years old, born to Peter MCARTHUR deceased, and Katharine GILCHRIST, it
also indicates she is buried at Kilmeny Cemetary, but I never found a
stone. (*Note, it does not indicate that her mother Katharine GILCHRIST
MCARTHUR has died yet! I have not had a chance to look for her death
certificate, but it could reveal some very valuable information! Any one
in Scotland to look this up?)
The marriage record for Peter MCARTHUR and Katharine GILCHRIST was found
in Killarrow Parish Feb 17, 1794, and states, "He a young man in
Avinvoggie, and she a young woman in Bowmore, both in this parish, were
booked in order to marriage and married. They had 8 children.
** Katharine GILCHRIST is a Bowmore GILCHRIST.
I have not found a birth record for Katharine GILCHRIST. The only
possibility I found in Killarrow was for Anna GILCHRIST, April 20, 1775
to Ronald Gilchrist and Isabel McLean. I believe Anna could be a
shortened version of Katharine. She also would have been 19 years old
when she married.
So, if no one else wants to claim Anna GILCHRIST born April 20, 1775 as
theirs, I will gladly claim her and consider another space filled on my
tree! :-) (I wish it was that easy!!!)
I am also still looking for:
*the parents of Peter McArthur, born about 1775 possibly in Avinvoggie.
*Malcolm MCNICHOL weaver and Jean MCDERMID, the parents of Archibald,
MCNICOL, possibly in Ariquary or Rosquern in the parish of Kilmeny.
Thanks,
Peg, in really cold Wisconsin!
