Thank-you for being observant and thoughtful. You didn't say she was from Islay, where we know of two Spence families and will probably connect them at some point, with no Catherine's (yet). I did check LDS and found A Catherine Helen Spence b. 1825 Melrose Roxburgh. If that's her, then there's no connection.
