Hi David
Welcome to the Islay site - lots of friendly folks here.
Just to get you started....
On pg 52 of Eldon Connections by Rae Fleming (no ISBN) is a Carmichael
tree - don't know if it's your line or not. There are also photos. It
would be worth your while to get a copy of this book through inter-library
loan just in case.
If you will go to www.rootsweb.com/~steve/islay/rawdata you will see the
Puttenham OPR transcriptions. There are a couple of Isabels in the time
frame in the Bowmore records. Under Bowmore Marriages 1771-1819 I see
Donald Gillespie and Bell "Mcarccar" marr 14 Jul 1818 - this warrants
further research.
Good Luck in your search

grandmother, wife of Robert Gillespie. Robert was born on Islay, a son of
Donald Gillespie and Isabella McVickar. Isabelle C. was likely born about
1831 either in Eldon, Victoria county or on Islay. She was married in 1849,
I believe in Eldon and died in 1858. She had brothers in the Eldon area as I
have letters to my grandfather from his Carmichael cousins.
