Hi David,
A quick look through the Marriage and Baptismal Register of Rev. John
McMurchy, (The Marriage Registers of Upper Canada/Canada West - Colborne
District 1841-1857) shows:

"Robert Gillespie, of Brock twp, Home District, to Isabella Carmichael, of
Eldon twp, Colborne dist., 6 Mar, 1849, by Rev MacMurchy. witnesses: John
McDougal and Archibald Gillespie"

Lucky hit! I think 1831 is a very early birth in Eldon township, but I
could be wrong, or she might have been born enroute. There were a lot of
Carmichaels in Eldon/Fenelon townships. I visited a cemetery near
Woodville, Ontario (Eldon twp), and it seemed like half of the tomb stones
read "......Carmichael, native of Islay."

I hope you will enjoy being part of this list. I think it's the greatest!
Cheers,
Toni Sinclair,
Niagara.

grandmother, wife of Robert Gillespie. Robert was born on Islay, a son of
Donald Gillespie and Isabella McVickar. Isabelle C. was likely born about
1831 either in Eldon, Victoria county or on Islay. She was married in 1849,
I believe in Eldon and died in 1858. She had brothers in the Eldon area as I
have letters to my grandfather from his Carmichael cousins.
