Hi J,
There was a Neil McGibbon who married Mary Campbell in Inveraray and
Glenaray, Argyll, Scotland 1 Mar 1781 and appears to be the one the
Queen Vic story refers to. They had these children, all in Inveraray
etc., according to the LDS:
Walter MCGIBBON ch. 3 Jan 1782
Dugald MACGIBBON ch. 26 Jul 1783
Isabella MACGIBBON ch. 11 Sep 1784
William MCGIBBON ch. 12 Sep 1786
Robert MCGIBBON ch. 31 Oct 1788
Mary MCGIBBON ch. 23 May 1790
Archibald MCGIBBON ch. 7 Jun 1791
Niel MCGIBBON ch. 21 Nov 1793
Davinia MCGIBBON ch. 3 Mar 1795
John MCGIBBON ch. 1 Mar 1797
Annabella Margaret MCGIBBON ch. 20 Dec 1799
Charlotte MCGIBBON ch. 7 May 1801
Margaret MCGIBBON ch. 2 May 1803
You might notice there is not a lot of time for an extra daughter to
be born in time for her to be old enough to marry in 1804. Perhaps
the point of the story is that Eleanor or Helen's father was Neil
McGibbon and she had a sister Margaret.
A Neil McGibbon or MacGibbon was the factor in Islay from about 1773
to 1804 according to the Stent Book.
There are two Neil McGibbon's in the early Kildalton marriage records:
NEIL MCGIBBON 26 May 1745 Kildalton, Argyll, Scotland m. ANNE MCDUGALD
NEIL MACGIBBON 20 Aug 1798 Kildalton, Argyll, Scotland m. PEGGY KELVIE
I have a Margaret McGibbon married to George McDiarmid in 1787 in
Killarrow but I don't know anything more about her.
Hope this helps,
Daryl
