Hi Richard,
If you look at the baptisms for Kilarrow 1763-1819 on the Islay site
you will find a Peter McArthur and Mary McArthur of Avinlussa who had a
son Duncan christened in 1781, and what appears to be the same couple,
identified as PATRICK McArthur and Mary McArthur having a son Charles in
1784. I had come to the conclusion some time ago that Peter
and Patrick were interchangeable, based on this.
I find your reasoning that Alexander's father Charles might be a
brother of Peter to be quite plausible.
Keep us posted on your efforts to make the death record legible.
