Hi Fellow Listers

I have come across a puzzle and I wonder if anyone out there has any more
information that may help me solve it one way or the other

I have record of two families where the father is John MacCuaig and the
mother is Mary Gilchrist

In family # 1
I got information from a Mr. John McQuiag Sr. of Dunwoody Georgia The John
who is the husband/father of the first family that I am referring to was
supposed to have been christened in 1751 in Kildalton. There is a
christening in the parish records but no name was given. Mr. McQuaig said
that the given name was John. He was, I believe, a direct descendant of
this John MacCuaig, so it very possible that he did know. The parish record
gave the location as Kilnaughton. He married a Mary Gilchrist and the
marriage date was thought to be about 1776. This date as you know is right
smack in the middle of a time period where there were no parish records for
Kildalton . There also supposed to be three sons, Alexander, Neil and
Malcolm.. According to Mr. McQuaig these people all died in South Carolina.

In family #2
John MacCuaig possibly son of Donald McQuiag and Mary McMath married Mary
Gilchrist in 1789. The marriage is found in the parish records. The
parents names are taken from the LDS AFN which is notorious for people
submitting incorrect information so who knows !! Their children are Donald
1792, Flora 1795, Mary 1798, Marrion 1801, Janet 1803, Duncan 1806

So my question is this - are there two couples with the same names? It's
happened before and I suppose very possible OR is this the same family and
Mr. McQuaig just out on his dates?

Can anyone enlighten me?
