Subject: [SCT-ISLAY] Morrison/McVoran + McAlister

Hi,
I am wondering whether this rings any bells. I have a Unity McAlister who
married Alexander Johnston (son of Duncan Johnston and Catherine McIntyre)
on 24th November, 1835 at Urquhart, Inverness,
Scotland.

Unity was born at Urquhart, Inverness on the 17th August, 1816. Her parents
were Donald McAlister and Jane Morrison/McVoran. Unity's death certificate,
however, states that she was from Islay so perhaps her parents were from
Islay. The surnames are certainly fit.

By the way, is Morrison an English variation of McVoran as the two surnames
have appeared on different documents?

Unity and Alexander emigrated to Australia. They travelled onboard The Lord
Burleigh, arriving in Sydney on the 29th August, 1855. The passage was
assisted by James Gregg.

This is one of my sidelines, however, if anyone is interested in further
information, I would be happy to provide further information.
Kind regards,
Rowena Curtin
