Sheila,
I know little else about the ship. Perhaps ask on the Mariners List.
A year later the Captain's wife gave birth to their first son in the Straits
of Malacca and his birth was registered when the ship reached Singapore. I
assume that this might have been part of its regular route, but it appears that
it also took irregular routes. There is also an old story in the family
(perhaps apocryphal) that on one of his sailings he went past Krakatoa, Indonesia
and on the return voyage the island was no longer there. True or not as to
timing, this suggests that the family believed that he sailed via the normal
route of the EasT Indies, rather than around the Horn.
