Dear Neil,

I'm sorry, but you're out of luck as far as Islay goes. Nearly all the
Calders on Islay were in the parish of Kildalton (&Oa). Unfortunately
there is a gap in the baptism records from 1765 to 1789.

I have put together an Excel spreadsheet of Calders in Kildalton to
1765.

You are welcome to a copy, but it is unlikely to help you.

My Calders live in Port Ellen in the 1800s.

Subject: [SCT-ISLAY] Donald Calder

Dear List
I have tracked back my ancestors in Kintyre to a Donald Calder, Master
Tailor. The only information about him is that he married Christina
McLean in Killean in 1811. There is no record of his birth in the
Kintyre records. There has always been family mythology that we
originally came from Islay. Perhaps the lack of evidence of Donald's
birth is because he came across to the mainland from Islay.

I would be very grateful for any leads. I imagine that Donald was born
around 1780. Can anyone suggest a way of tracking a Donald Calder in
Islay records?
Happy New Year
Neil Calder
