For what it is worth.....

'Gortanvogie' is the name of the site that now includes the Islay Hospital
and a residential home for the elderly.

It is located immediately south-east of Bowmore at the edge of the village.

In my childhood (1950s) it was invariably referred to as the 'Poorhouse'.
