Hi Dee
Kindrochid, as it appears on modern maps, was/is a farm north of Loch Gorm.
There are various spellings such as Ceandrochait or Keandrochead.
Kindrochid is about 4-5 kilometres west and slightly south of Kilnave which
is on the west shore of Loch Gruinart.
You can download an interactive placenames of Islay map at

Interestingly enough my McCannel family was also from Kindrochid and
emigrated to Ontario in 1847. Where did your family settle?

Hello,
My g.g.grandmother,Mary McNeill came from Kindrachat, Parish of
Kilchoman. She married Donald Gillespie, from Kilnave, in 1833. They
imagrated to Ontario in abt. 1847. Does anyone know these folks or
where Kindrachat was or is? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
