Sorry for the poor quality, I've darkened the picture as much as I could.

I am a a dead-end in my research and am grasping at straws. A photo
archivist told me that this photo could not have been taken on Islay at the
time I'm guessing it was taken, around 1855. Does anyone else have any
Islay photos from this period or know of any photographers that worked on
the island at that time - perhaps the archivist is correct.

I think that I've found as much as I can on the internet and through
ScotlandsPeople. If I go to Scotland what more can I find out that I
haven't already found in the on-line records?

thanks very much to all,
Norma
