I have been so impressed with the information coming through that I thought
I'd try again to see whether anyone can help me with Christy McKINNON who
married Alexander McCALLUM (where? when?) and had children, Marianne, born
1810, Aros, Mull; Alicia, born 1815 Aros, Mull, a second Alicia, born 1816,
Aros, Mull, Robert Stewart McCALLUM, born 1817 Aros, Mull, Julia Mary, died
as an infant 1823, Aros, Mull, and Christina McCALLUM, born about 1821
(where?), died October 28, 1888, Tobermory, Mull, married John McCALLUM,
writer/solicitor of Tobermory.
I am stuck with Christy and Alexander as the OPR don't have their births or
marriage. There seems to have been a close connection with the family of
John McCALLUM (Innkeeper and carpenter of Tobermory) who married Catherine
McLEAN of Bunessan (John McCALLUM, writer of Tobermory is their son), and I
am wondering whether Alexander and John Snr. might have been brothers or
cousins. Jean Whimp, also on this list, is directly descended from John
McCALLUM, so any ideas will be useful to both of us.
Alexander McCALLUM died on 31.12.1833, aged 53 years, and his gravestone
describes him as Tacksman of Ledmore and Tenga, but his daughter Alicia (my
ggrandmother) described him as Merchant on her wedding certificate.
Here's hoping,
Jill (in Brisbane, Qld., Australia)
