I was showing my wife your statement that A county can only be a shire if
there is a city or town of the same name as the county?

Pamela who hails from Hampshire in England asks how does Hampshire then come
to be a well known county and shire when there is no town or city of the same
name, she tells me that Winchester is the county town of Hampshire capital of
Wessex, by the same reasoning Lancashire is a shire when there is no town of
that name the county town is Lancaster.Should that then be Lancastershire?
