Have been able to trace my McLean/McLaine line tentatively back to John Maclaine of Gruline (1728-1792). I see in Jo Currie's working notes that he is supposed to have had a son by a local woman. Believe that son to be Charles Roy Maclean who married Isabel McGilvray. Children of Charles Roy and Isabel thought to be Grizzel (f) b. 3-24-1772 Kilninian (possibly married to Duncan McColl 2-9-1792 Kilninian), Christian b. 3-2-1772 same, Duncan b. 8-26-1779 same, Roderick b. 1-13-1782 same.

Roderick married Margaret McLean on 12-3-1810 Scallastle. Children of Roderick and Margaret thought to be Dougall b. ?, James b. ?, Margaret b. ?, Flory b. 12-10-1810 Torosay, Colin b. 7-6-1812 Ledirkle, Charles b. 2-13-1814 Scallastle (married Sarah McKenzie), John b. 11-5-1815 Scallastle (married Christina McMaster), and Archibald b. 4-27-1817 Torosay.

Would love to share information with anyone with ties into this line.
