Guala in Gaelic means 'shoulder', so there are hundreds of hills which are
called Guala + an adjective or Gualann + a possessive. Guala Buidhe is
yellow shoulder of a hill, so the hills with whin or gorse will be called
that. Gual'a'Lochain is shoulder of the hill by the little loch, and so on.
If anyone knows the OS Grid Reference for Jill's hill, we can get its name
from Charles Maclean's book THE ISLE OF MULL: PLACENAMES, MEANINGS and
STORIES. This by the way is available from Charles Maclean himself at £12.95
from Maclean Publications, 34 Castledykes Road, Dumfries, DG1 4SW, Scotland,
UK.
