Hi Garnet,
I'm still thinking about your GGGrandmother born circa 1793 married to
Charles McEachern born about 1791 who appear oin the 1841 census at
Ardfinaig .
you name their children as Hector 20 Dugald 16, Neil 14, Mary 10 Catherine
3.
I am wondering whether you have located a marriage for the parents?
The Hugh McLean that was born to Catherine McGilvray and Captain Hector Hugh
McLean
was christened on 20 March 1818 Kilfinichen (which would be the parish for
Ardfinaig).
Since Captain Hector Hugh McLean was in Aberdeen about a month after the
christening for his own marriage could it be that Catherine and Charles
McEachern brought up the child as "Hector" rather than "Hugh".
Although the 1841 gives his age as 20 (not 23 ) it does seem possible.
If we knew the marriage date of Catherine and Charles and it was AFTER 1818
then this could be possible.
Your letter does not say from which member of Catherine and Charles's
children you are descended.
