Hi List

Ian asked

The Counties with two names are :

Angus or Forfar
Moray or Elgin
East Lothian or Haddington
Mid Lothian or Edinburgh
West Lothian or Linlithgow
Shetland or Zetland

It should be born in mind that Fife was/is known as the 'Kingdom of Fife.'

For some strange reason when the Chapman Codes were set up they ignored the 'ancient' names of the Counties.

I personally believe we should code these, and NOT change the county name, when we transcribe/extract information from documents:

Forfar FOR, Elgin ELG , Haddington HAD, Edinburgh EDI, Linlithgow LIN and Zetland ZET.

The following web-page is quite useful :

Best Wishes
Les
