Argyll and Bute Council Archives - An Introduction

A warm welcome to the Argyll and Bute Council Archives

The Archive Service holds and preserves the official records of not only the
Argyll and Bute Council, but those which the Council inherited from
Strathclyde Regional Council and Argyll and Bute District Council.

The Archive Service also provides accommodation for archives derived from
private individuals, estates, solicitors, businesses and organisations
within the area of Argyll and Bute Council, considered of historic interest
and worthy of permanent preservation. These private records are often held
on indefinite loan and remain the property of the person or institute
depositing them.

Current information files are maintained to ensure that we have details of
up-to-date developments in the area, to compliment the vast range of
historical material.
