According to family information, Margaret Maclaine was born in 1782 at
Lochbuie. The story goes that she was the eldest daughter of the "chief",
but I don't know which. Is it possible that she was the daughter of Murdoch
Maclaine? She married Duncan Currie (b. 1774) and emigrated to Owen Sound,
Ontario in 1842 with seven of her nine grown children. She and Duncan
appear on the 1851 Census of Sydenham, Owen Sound, Ontario. They talk of
the men in the family fighting bears with only a knife for a weapon. Duncan
died in 1874 (aged 100), after saying the Lord's Prayer in Gaelic; she died
on 27 Feb 1852. (I have seen her grave.) They say she was a large,
reddish-blonde woman "showing her Viking ancestry".

I can find certainty of neither Margaret's parents, nor Duncan's parents. I
do know they were on Mull, as I have seen records of monetary settlement
with Duncan's employer, just prior to his leaving Mull for Ontario, spelling
his name Curry at the time. He was evidently working on a road system of
some sort.

Please provide me with any clues you might have.
